Aussie Film Archive is a library of free Australian films. It showcases and preserves Australian cinema to be more accessible to a wider audience.
ABOUT
Angelica Willis (she/her) is a Tasmanian born media and sociology graduate living in the U.K who has curated and created the Aussie Film Archive.
Plagued with homesickness, I started this project to connect with my national identity and for an excuse to watch Australian films. I feel as though it is important to showcase Australian films that did not have commercial success or are underappreciated. My aim is for Australian films to be more accessible to a wider audience and to share resources that has helped me build this website.
It is important to note that this project feature films that depict mistreatment of women, stereotypes, blackface, racism, rape, and a white-washed view of First Nations issues. This website cannot erase the cruelty of Australian cinema history. The films are there to inform wider audiences and for reflection.
This project will also share the stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. I pay my respects to elders, past and present and recognise that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have and will contribute immensely to the development of this website and the future of Australian cinema.
